Honky-ass
MothaFuka
lauryn hill is lamenting
or so i've heard told
white people like her music
and she'd rather lose a child
white people gave her grammies
i don't see her refusing those
what is it in the aesthetics of her art she doesn't want white
people to apreciate?
is there something in the struggling african american artist that
doesn't want to be understood by those outside their groups
i can understand not wanting posers and wiggers digging on her
music
but what about honest apreciation?
understanding comes when you reach out and someone reaches back
when you're screaming, do you want to be screamed at
or hugged
i think maybe you want a scream in return
too many friendly hands reach out in your direction
unwanted friends
take the hands of your mother, your sisters, your brothers, your
fathers
aunts, uncles, cousins, grand parents, the people on your block
but who cares about wether this rich, preppy, white assfuck likes
your melodies cuz he's busy date raping sixteen-year-olds with zima and
a barry white album and doesn't give a fuck about zion, malcom, marley
or king
what the fuck is a buffalo soldier to him?
forgive him father, for he know not what he do
forgive her father, for she know not who she screw
(take it to the bridge)
she screw herself
put her music on a low shelf
so we won't bend down to reach
but her music came to teach
was it divine inspiration behind her melody
or was it the push of her record company
she sings like spiritual and uses old rhythms
but why's she gotta hold on to old schisms
let it go lauryn, accept your place in the global village
a model to teach those who want to learn, not pillage
there will always be rapists, posers and fakes
but give us the benefit of the doubt
for yours, mine and the lord's sakes
so even if she thinks i'm a honky, i still like the album ;g
